SCISSOR LIFT ( 20 feet to 45 feet ) : This is a mechanical structured platform that can only move vertically. The mechanism to achieve this is the use of linked, folding supports in a criss-cross X pattern, known as scissor mechanism. The upward motion is achieved by the application of pressure to the outside of the lowest set of supports, with the help of hydraulic cylinders ,elongating the crossing pattern, and propelling the work platform vertically.

Depending on the power system employed on the lift, it may require no power to descend, able to do so with a simple release of hydraulic or pneumatic pressure. This is the main reason that these methods of powering the lifts are preferred, as it allows a fail-safe option of returning the platform to the ground by release of a manual valve.

The hydraulic pump is driven by fuel powered engine or by electric, naming the variant as engine operated and electric operated.

This Scissor lift can again be classified into 2 types, depending upon their application

1) Fixed or floor mounted

2) Towable
